Border Stone (part of Bradstone) |
I joined Aggregate Industries in September 2000 with a degree in Geology from Leeds University and two years' experience in retail management. Since joining the company I have worked in four different roles and have gained valuable experience in several parts of the business.
Following completion of the six-week induction programme, I was keen to start work as soon as possible. My first position was in Sales with the Bradstone Division, based at Hulland Ward in Derbyshire. After shadowing the Bradstone Territory Sales Managers and having condensed but detailed sales training, I was left to work on my own. I would chase up leads fed into the office, gain new customers and open new accounts.
In March 2001 I took a job as Territory Sales Manager for East Anglia and Lincolnshire, calling on Builders Merchants, Garden Centres and DIY sheds. This encompassed all aspects of sales, from prospecting for new business, to servicing and building the sales of existing customers.

After nearly a year I was promoted to National Account Manager for the three Building Materials Divisions of Aggregate Industries. I was the Head Office contact for buyers representing two of the national chains of Builders Merchants, servicing every aspect of the accounts, from credit control to monitoring the sales performance of individual branches.
My six months in this position gave me a great insight into how large companies operate.
In October 2002, Aggregate Industries bought a small decorative aggregate supplier in Welshpool, Powys, called Border Stone. One week before the acquisition I was asked to attend an interview with the Managing Director for Aggregate Industries UK. The following Monday I was appointed General Manager for Border Stone and promptly moved to Welshpool. I am now responsible for all aspects of the business, from delivering sales volumes, to managing production and transport. I have responsibility for a team of sales representatives and a fleet of vehicles, as well as a busy sales office, stock and production.
When I joined Aggregate Industries and was told I would be given opportunities to progress quickly to a position of responsibility, I did not expect to be given such a fantastic role after just two years.
Whatever the next challenge may be, I look forward to my future with Aggregate Industries.
