My career with Aggregate Industries began in March 2002 after graduating from Sheffield University with a Business Studies Degree. The induction to Aggregate Industries involved a four-week tour of sites and offices across the UK, which enabled me to meet people in each of the Aggregate Industries business divisions.
The first assignment I received was based in Greenwich and involved investigating the South East Recycling Materials Market for the Aggregates Division. I explored how the Construction and Demolition industry operated within the M25 and put a proposal together for entry into the market. Working closely with the Recycling Manager, I was involved in making contacts with Local Councils and Research Consultancies. It is satisfying to know that my project work has since been used as a basis for decision-making about Aggregate Industries' involvement in the South East Recycling market.

My second role took me to one of Aggregate Industries' block manufacturing sites, based at Erith. Here, I worked on a Capital Expenditure Proposal for the implementation of an electronic slewing system to save the Erith plant time and money. Though Aggregate Industries did not action the proposal, the placement enabled me to experience day-to-day plant issues and I learnt a great deal about the technical aspects of how the machinery worked on site.
My project work was critical to my development as it enabled me to question freely and to make a positive contribution to the company.
Following the two placements, I was offered the position of Commercial Co-ordinator for Bardon Concrete. Since joining in September 2002, I have worked with the Bardon Concrete Transport team, tracked Capital Expenditure for new plants and have been involved in a commercial joint venture project. My experience of working for different businesses in various roles has greatly developed my analytical, organisational and research skills.
Since joining Bardon Concrete I have been given the opportunity to develop my career. My current role is varied, I enjoy working as a member of the Bardon Concrete Team and I look forward to my future with Aggregate Industries.
