“I
usually start at 07.30 in the morning but sometimes, like
when one of the lads is on holiday, I'll come in at 06.00
to help with cover.
Finishing time comes round quickly, usually 16.30. But again,
if there is something that we need to finish then I stay to
help, it’s what I'm trained to do. I only live 10 minutes
away so it’s easy for me. I understand the need for
flexible working and that the plant must be ready. We are
careful and look after each other and keep things tidy.
I'm only 20 now, but have taken on responsibilities that
are important like the lifting gear register and the cutting
gear inspections which I am trained to do. I'm a qualified
welder already and use these skills almost daily. I'm also
one of the few trained to run our weighbridges.
There's plenty of work variety on any day and I enjoy being
involved because I learn more about the site operations. This
will help with my own development in the future, because I
hope I know what may lie ahead.”
