Employee development
Aggregate Industries places great emphasis on the development of its
employees. The Company continues to implement a range of human resource
strategies aimed at developing employee performance and contribution while
providing recognition and reward for achievement.
Progress monitoring
On first joining the Company following comprehensive inductions, graduate
management trainees will enter a performance appraisal scheme, whereby
their progress will be regularly appraised. Aggregate Industries operates
a companywide performance appraisal system and the chance of rapid career
development for those who demonstrate the right potential.
Aggregate Industries believes that graduates should take responsibility
for their own personal development at an early stage. To facilitate this
process a mentor, who is an experienced senior manager, will work with
each trainee. Mentors provide support in the form of advice on project
work and encouragement to trainees in expanding their knowledge, thinking
and experience.
Training
The main feature of graduate training with Aggregate Industries is the
daily experience of undertaking specific projects and assignments. Complete
geographic mobility is essential during the training period as graduates
receive placements in a variety of job functions around the UK group to
work on live issues such as finding solutions to specific problems, designing
and implementing new systems or investigating areas where improvements
need to be made. Each placement lasts about six months, with a report
and presentation of results delivered by the graduate at the end of this
period.
This ‘hands on’ experience is supplemented by a programme
of training courses. Modules include controlling operations, influencing
skills and problem solving. Further management skills challenges for graduate
management trainees are offered in the form of an outdoor course which
focuses on leadership, team working and communication skills.
Aggregate Industries is also committed to supporting graduates with
studies for further professional or technical qualifications once in a
substantive post. Qualifications such as those from the Institute of Quarrying,
CIMA, CIM, CIPD and ICE, as well as additional contracting qualifications,
are currently being pursued by Aggregate Industries employees and all
approved courses are sponsored by the company.
Training period
Following a comprehensive induction, graduates can expect generalist
placements in all UK operating businesses over a period of twelve to eighteen
months. During this time it is likely that they will spend time in the
Head Office of the UK business, located in Coalville, Leicestershire.
Graduates will be placed according to the emergence of projects in particular
locations and so complete mobility is essential.
Career progression
Aggregate Industries is committed to recruiting graduates from a variety
of disciplines and giving them experience in areas such as Marketing,
Sales, Finance, Engineering, Information Technology, Human Resources and
Operations. Operational placements provide a close-up view of the essential
elements of the activities of Aggregate Industries. Graduates may find
themselves working in a quarry or a factory or a site office for a period.
Such assignments provide an understanding of the company and its products
at a fundamental level.
Following this experience, graduates can make an informed decision regarding
job and career interests based on actual experience.
Benefits
Aggregate Industries offers a competitive salary, in addition to a
comprehensive pension and benefits package.
