"Aggregate Industries believes the establishment of links with local schools is very important and work experience offers many benefits and opportunities. For students, it can enhance their knowledge and understanding and better prepare them for the world of work. For the Company, it can provide the opportunity to help students develop an insight into the skills and attitudes required by the business and to raise their awareness of the varied career opportunities within the different operations of Aggregate Industries.

It is Aggregate Industries' aim to offer first hand experience of the industry, giving an overview of the varied careers on offer and for the work experience to be tailored to the student's needs. Typically a work experience student will accompany various professionals on their normal daily duties and have a glimpse of the difference types of work involved. In addition, the students will often establish long lasting links with the Company and frequently this can result in full-time job opportunities.

Aggregate Industries also recognizes that work experience is an excellent opportunity to give students a good grounding in health and safety. It is especially mindful of the dangers associated with its operations and carefully considers the health, safety and welfare of all students together with its employees."

Steve Tagg, Head of Human Resources, Aggregate Industries UK Ltd.

Alex Ferguson - Work Experience Trainee

"The workshop staff were helpful and the work interesting. As well as fitting on machines, I saw quarry blasting, rode in a 777 dumper truck and watched stone beng crushed. My week was one of the most enjoyable I have experienced."

"I really enjoyed my six-week university professional attachment in web development at Aggregate Industries. Everyone across the company was so helpful and welcoming that by the end of the six weeks I'd really settled in."

Sarah Cooper - Work Experience Trainee

"My week at Aggregate Industries was a desert island in year 10 from which I did not want to leave. I was made welcome, and accepted as an equal. The experiences I had that week made a big impression on me as a person and my future career decisions."
